Breaking Chains: Freedom for the Full Life
Scripture John 10: 7-11
Breaking the Chains—in this series we are looking at the things that bind us, hold us back, and keeping us for living in the fullness of life in Jesus. In this first sermon in the series called Freedom for the Full Life we will examine the image of Jesus as shepherd that provides and guides up to abundant life.
Questions to guide reflection and response to the message:
· What does it mean to you that "Jesus is the gate for the sheep?"
· How is Jesus your protection and your provider?
· All metaphors eventually fall short. Even so, how are you like or not like the sheep Jesus speaks of now?
· What does it mean for us as followers of Jesus today, in our context, to be protected by the gate and the shepherd, to be ‘saved’ to have life in abundance?
· The metaphor of the gate is not one of exclusion, we are not called to think of ourselves as Jesus’ true sheep. As Jesus says in verse 10:16, “I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice.” The gate is more a guard against those that need protection. What is our calling to be also about the work of protection?
