Week 1 - Discipleship Guide - "The Heart of Advent"

The Heart of Advent – Discipleship Guide Week 1

Luke 1:26-38 “Hope in the Time of Despair”

The hope that Jesus offers is always available to us, even in times of despair and difficulty. He stands as the ultimate Hope, not just for the Advent season but for all seasons and every day. Amid our darkest times, His presence reassures us that He is enough, offering a hope that transcends circumstances. Jesus sustains us through every trial, embodying the true essence of hope that carries us through every moment.

1)    Have you ever been in a situation where you felt all hope was gone? Are you going through such a time right now? Explain.

2)    We all have to take journeys that we might not want to take in life.  When was a time you had to take a life journey that you did not want to take and how did you get through it?

3)    Where are you placing your hope other than in Jesus? Do you tend to rely on your own power and ability? Explain.

4)    When have you truly felt God’s presence in a situation that you had to journey through?  (A place where you felt a sense of hope.)

5)    When was a time that God showed up in an unexpected way in your life, in a situation, or with someone you may know? Explain.  How did this give you a sense of hope?

6)    What is one thing you can do to see where God has already shown up in your life that you may not see or may have forgotten about?  What kind of distractions keep you from seeing this hope that is in your life?
